About Our Practice
Pediatrix Surgical Associates was founded in 1972 by renowned pediatric surgeon and international authority on conjoined twin separation, Dr. Theodore Votteler. Since that time, the pediatric surgeons at Pediatric Surgical Associates have helped thousands of children in Dallas and the surrounding communities.
Our surgeons continue to honor the legacies of Dr. Votteler and recently retired former Medical Director Dr. Darrell Hermann by remaining on the cutting edge of pediatric surgical procedures ranging from common hernia surgery to rare surgical procedures like the complex separation of conjoined twins, minimally-invasive surgeries, or the new Bascom procedure for pilonidal cysts.
Our pediatric surgery services also include, but are not limited to abdominal and abdominal wall surgery, thoracic surgery (chest and chest wall), genitourinary surgery, head and neck surgery, skin and soft tissue surgery, laparoscopic surgery (minimally invasive), birth defects and prenatal counseling.

Learn About Your Rights and Protections as a Patient
Dear Patients:
Soon, the NextGen Patient Portal will update to a new version. This new portal offers a more modern, secure and convenient way to stay connected with your care team.
The new portal will be available on Monday, September 21. Please ensure you are enrolled in the new portal.
Enrollment is simple and only takes a few steps:
- Make sure your practice has your current email address.
- Watch for an email invitation to enroll.
- Create a username and password and follow the prompts to activate your account.
Once enrolled, you’ll have 24/7 access to your health information through the portal. With the new portal, you’ll be able to:
- Communicate securely with your provider or care team
- View upcoming and past appointments
- Review test and lab results (once reviewed by your provider)
- View visit summaries, notes and attachments
- Request prescription refills (when available)
- Review medications and health records
- Access educational health information
You can also review, download or securely share your health records with other health care providers as needed.
